The fastest GT of the Sprint: RTR projects shines on Slovakia Ring

Reinhard Kofler’s victory in the opening sprint race not only in the GTX class but also in the overall GT classification marked a triumphant Saturday for RTR Projects at the Slovakia Ring during the ESET Cup. Alongside the sprint success, the team also celebrated a second-place finish in the endurance race within their class.

“We came here to showcase the potential of the KTM X-Bow GT2, whether in the hands of a professional driver or a hobby racer. We wanted to prove that this car can compete even with GT3 cars. I’m glad we achieved that,” said team owner Tomáš Miniberger, pleased with the Saturday results.

The KTM X-Bow GT2, which RTR Projects plans to enter in select Fanatec GT2 European Series events, showed promise on the nearly six-kilometer Slovakia Ring from Friday onward. The duo of Reinhard Kofler and Tomáš Miniberger secured the endurance pole position in the GTX class and a third overall qualifying spot with a lap time of 1:59.516.
On Saturday morning, Kofler raised the bar even higher by clocking a 1:58.536 in the sprint qualifying, making him the fastest among all GT cars. Only Miro Konopka in the Ligier LMP3 prototype posted a better time.

Kofler’s strong starting position translated into success during the sprint. He dominated not only the GTX class but also the overall GT category, finishing nearly 20 seconds ahead of Adam Konopka in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3.

“I think the team and I did a great job together. I’m very satisfied,” said Kofler post-race. The Austrian briefly led overall, even surpassing Miro Konopka in the Ligier LMP3 during the first two laps. However, he soon realized the prototype’s superior performance and let Konopka pass to avoid compromising his own race.
“I tried to keep Miro behind and leverage our car’s strengths, but it quickly became clear that I couldn’t fight him. I decided to let him go to avoid complicating our race,” Kofler explained.

The endurance race started similarly, with Kofler taking the overall lead right from the start and maintaining it throughout the first stint. Initially, he had to fend off attacks from Dennis Waszka in a BMW M6 GT3 but soon built a comfortable gap.
“We had a fantastic start. The car was incredible, and driving it was pure joy,” Kofler said of the opening stint.

However, the race’s strategic element came into play during the pit stops. RTR Projects faced a minor issue during refueling, which cost them time. Ultimately, Tomáš Miniberger brought the car home in second place in the GTX class and fourth overall.

The third ESET Cup event concludes Sunday with the second sprint race at 14:20. Tomáš Miniberger will represent RTR Projects, starting from pole position in the GTX class and fifth on the overall grid.
