RTR Projects heads to Oschersleben with a new driver

While Thursday’s tests marked the debut for Petr Lisa and Pavel Sovička at Oschersleben, the team itself and its manager, Tomáš Fanta, have extensive experience with the German circuit from their participation in the ADAC GT4 Germany series up until last season. Fanta is well aware of the challenges the track presents, highlighting the critical importance of qualifying—and a bit of luck.
“Even if you start from a good position, it can all be lost. The first and second corners are extremely demanding, especially after the start. Staying calm will be absolutely essential,” he warned.

However, Fanta remains optimistic following the Thursday tests, praising how quickly both drivers adapted to the new circuit, and in Sovička’s case, to new equipment. The team’s newest driver only tested the car for the first time last week during pre-season sessions in Brno and quickly agreed to race at Oschersleben.

“He’s getting to know the car on a track that’s completely new to him—and far from easy. I must tip my hat to him; he handled everything surprisingly well. Today, he made enormous progress as a driver. After Petr worked with him, he now understands the car and its strengths much better. He knows what to do and how to handle it. Every time he got out of the car, he was thrilled. It was a morale boost for us as a team,” Fanta said, praising the newcomer.

For Sovička, who has previously competed in the Carbonia Cup with a Corvette Z06 GT, adapting to the conceptually different X-Bow GTX has been made easier with guidance from the experienced Petr Lisa. Lisa has raced in numerous events with RTR Projects, including their victorious 24-hour race in Barcelona four years ago. He also took part in spring tests in Spain and Portugal and acknowledges the challenges ahead at Oschersleben.

“It’s a narrow, almost kart-like track where overtaking will be incredibly tough. Unless someone makes a clear mistake, it’ll be a real challenge. It’s also a dangerous circuit, with barriers quite close to the track. Even one small error could cause big problems,” he explained.
Despite this, Lisa is pleased with the team’s progress during the Thursday tests. “We’ve fine-tuned the setup, and it’s come together well. I’d say we’re ready for Saturday. Now we’ll focus on the racing line and tyres. Of course, new tyres will change things, but overall, we’ve got a solid amount of testing under our belt,” he concluded.
