Jan Krabec goes to Valencia to defend the lead in the European GT2 Series for RTR projects

Heavy rain on Friday, sunny on Saturday and Sunday. This is the forecast that may affect the fifth round of the series in Valencia. "It will very likely mean that for us, for the first time, we will go straight to Saturday's qualifying on a dry track," guesses RTR projects executive director Tomáš Fanta. Unlike their competitors, the team was not able to use the free Thursday tests, as Jan Krabec arrived at the circuit late in the evening due to work obligations.

On the other hand, the Brno team will have the advantage of spring. In Valencia, they tested and completed a club race with the KTM X-BOW GT2. “We verified that we can compete with cup GTs or even some GT3s on this track,” Jan Krabec sums up his impressions of Valencia. “The track suited me in the spring and I enjoyed racing on it,” added the forty-year-old pilot, who currently leads the AM class standings by eight points ahead of Austrian Klaus Angerhofer racing for the KTM True Racing factory team.

The team wants to use the rainy Friday for the first test in these conditions. “We probably won’t use it during the weekend, but no one knows, maybe it will rain during the weekend. It could also happen that we will drive on water in the last event at Paul Ricard,” says Krabec.

According to Tomáš Fanta, the team can start from the setup for the spring tests, but since then they have changed the surface on part of the track. “The competition had the advantage of the Thursday tests, we have the advantage of the spring. It will be a bit stressful, especially when we know that key points in the championship are at stake. We are approaching the whole weekend very humbly with a clear goal – to remain the leader,” says Fanta. Krabec is also aware of this. “We have to drive conservatively, avoid confusion and unreasonable risk, but at the same time fight. We are close to the title and we will do everything to not let it go.”

Along with the KTM X-BOW GT2 of the Brno team, the KTM factory team will also be present in Valencia, for which former motorcycle world champion Dani Pedrosa will be starting for the first time in this championship. He will start in a crew with KTM board member Hubert Trunkenpolz. “It will be an exceptional weekend for KTM and I believe they will want to show themselves in the best light here. We are happy to be part of the “orange family” and that the entire KTM starting field in the entire GT2 series is unmissable,” says the owner of the RTR projects team, Tomáš Miniberger, who also went to Valencia.

Jan Krabec will face two 50-minute races over the weekend, separated by less than 20 hours. On Saturday, the race will start at 5:00 PM, and on Sunday, it will start at 10:00 AM. Both races can be watched live online.
