On a specific track with a number of fast corners and horizons, the team will focus mainly on improving its qualifying performance before the pair of races. “We know that we are very strong in the race, both thanks to the setup and because Honza drives thoughtfully. Our goal now will be to find a setup that will help us move even further forward in qualifying,” outlined the plans before Friday’s practice sessions, RTR projects team executive director Tomáš Fanta.
RTR projects will also work closely with the KTM True Racing factory team on the setup. “We are happy to be able to work so closely. We know that the factory team has an advantage over us in qualifying, so we will definitely try out the data and knowledge from them at least in training,” Fanta outlined. “We have a good pace for the races, but for qualifying we need to find a setup, especially for the chassis, for one really fast lap,” Jan Krabec also confirms.
Due to the hot weather in Portugal, the team will try to be as efficient as possible in training. “Our goal is to have the most productive driving time possible, so that Honza doesn’t sit behind the wheel for the entire training and saves his energy for the races,” Fanta describes the tactics ahead of the race weekend.
In the cabin heated to 60 degrees, two hour-long races await the Krabs on Saturday and Sunday. “We have tested here since spring, the car worked well here, I also got to know the track on the simulator. I don’t feel like there’s anything we should be afraid of before the weekend,” says the pilot, who at the halfway point of the season leads the AM category by twenty points ahead of Klaus Angehofer, also starting on a KTM X-BOW GT2 in the colors of the True Racing factory team. The team would like to consolidate this position. “We are going to Portimao as the leader, so our goal is to finish twice and clearly fight for podium positions in our class,” outlined Tomáš Fanta.
