RTR projects will want to successfully conclude an exceptional season in the Fanatec GT2 European Series in France. “We are going for victory, but even without it, we will remember this season as one of the most successful,” says the team’s executive director Tomáš Fanta. The team will start private tests on Thursday, wanting to erase the handicap it is taking to France – for Jan Krabec and the team of mechanics and engineers, it will be on a track that has a rich history, including F1, the premier.
Paradoxically, the most “experienced” car on the Le Castellet circuit will be the car itself. The Brno team lent it to the factory team last year, who finished on the podium with it in the 12-hour endurance race.
“We will try to spend as much time on the track as possible. Before qualifying, we have private tests on Thursday and free practice on Friday, so we believe that we can eliminate any disadvantage. The weather should be kind to us, the conditions in tests and on the weekend should be the same,” says Jan Krabec. And he points out that qualifying may be key from the championship point of view. The driver receives a bonus point for victory. And in a close championship, that can mean a key advantage.
“If Angerhofer and I just swapped positions in both races, qualifying could decide the outcome,” says Krabec, who will go into the fight with the fact that in the last race in Valencia it was he who won the bonus point for pole position. However, his position will be more difficult at the Paul Ricard circuit – more teams have entered the race, so we can expect more traffic on the track and stronger competition.
But the team will also want to dominate in the races, as Jan Krabec has repeatedly proven throughout the season. “We are going into this with the idea that we will not change what worked in previous races. If the technology works and a little luck is added, I believe it will work out.” On the other hand, Krabec says that even second place would be a success. “We are going to fight for it, but even so, this season will be exceptional for me and the team,” the forty-year-old pilot points out.
And Tomáš Fanta says the same. “We don’t allow ourselves stress and pressure. We’re going to enjoy it, and if we crown this season with a title, it will be a big bonus,” says Fanta.
