The overall win comes right at the start of a season in which the team entered the most prestigious Pro-AM class. And it builds on last year’s title, which Jan Krabec won in the AM class. “We are systematically pursuing our goal of being at the absolute top of Europe. Jan Krabec has worked with us from a rookie to one of the most respected drivers in the GT2 grid. Combined with Mato Homola, who is proving to be a great professional and coach, we have produced an exceptional result and shown the strength of our team,” says Tomáš Miniberger, owner of RTR Projects. “We have assembled a team for this year that understands each other, knows what its goals are, and is mentally compatible,” Miniberger lists the strengths of this year’s line-up of drivers and staff led by chief engineer Tomas Fanta.
The overall win marked a stellar beginning to a season in which RTR Projects debuted in the premier PRO-AM category, building on last year’s AM title secured by Jan Krabec.
“We’re systematically working towards being at the top of European motorsport. Jan Krabec has grown from a rookie into one of the most respected drivers in the GT2 field. Together with Maťo Homola, an excellent professional and mentor, we’ve demonstrated the strength of our team,” noted RTR Projects owner Tomáš Miniberger.
The triumph at Paul Ricard came against stiff competition, including factory-backed KTM teams like True Racing and formidable Maserati entries.
“I secretly hoped for a podium, but this result exceeded all expectations. Huge thanks to Tomáš Miniberger for enabling us to build such a strong team and showcase its potential,” said team principal Tomáš Fanta.
The weekend began with tight schedules, as Homola and Krabec only began working with their car and fine-tuning its heavily reworked suspension on Thursday. Despite limited time, the duo quickly found a setup that suited them both.
“We aimed to make the car more aggressive and faster. Even with the limited time, we succeeded,” explained Krabec.
Krabec shone in Friday’s qualifying, securing second place with a time under 2:05, just behind Homola. While Homola was not entirely satisfied with his own qualifying performance, he delivered strong laps and showed potential for further improvement.
The first race saw Krabec start from the front row. Despite initial challenges adapting to the pace, particularly with a full fuel load affecting the lighter KTM, he held his ground. After the pit stop, Homola’s aggressive yet precise driving propelled the car to third place, overcoming a 10-second penalty to secure a podium finish.
The second race brought an even greater drama. Homola started out strong, moving into second place behind Reinhard Kofler. Krabec took over the car for a tense battle with Martin Koch and Maserati’s Leonardo Gorini. In a high-stakes moment near the race’s end, Gorini attempted to overtake both KTMs, resulting in contact and a spin. Krabec capitalized on the situation, overtaking Koch and claiming victory by a margin of just 70 thousandths of a second.
RTR’s success also highlighted the dominance of KTM, which secured four out of six podium spots and multiple top five finishes during the weekend.
“I want to thank KTM and team leader Laura Kraihammer for their exceptional support. It was a demanding weekend for them, but their efforts made a huge difference,” said Fanta.
For RTR Projects, the Paul Ricard results are a testament to the team’s preparation and potential for the season.
“We’re leading the championship, and for me, being back on the podium with Jan after five years is deeply rewarding. I’m proud of the entire team, which is showing incredible strength this year,” Fanta concluded.
