Another tough test and a star behind the wheel: RTR Projects heads to the ESET Cup with new GT2

The KTM X-Bow GT2, featuring Tomáš Miniberger and experienced Austrian factory driver Reinhard Kofler, will face its next challenge at the third ESET Cup event of the season on Slovakia Ring.

“We’re delighted that Reinhard has made time for us,” said team director Tomáš Fanta, welcoming the Austrian racer, who competes in the Fanatec GT2 European Series with MZR Motorsportzentrum Ried. “Since the start of the year, we’ve worked with Petr Lisa, Erik Janiš, and Maťo Homola – all of whom, like Reinhard, can teach us a great deal. Fielding professional drivers is something we plan to continue, as it allows us to learn about operating a top-tier racing team and car, which we can then leverage,” Fanta explained.

Kofler, no stranger to RTR Projects, is excited to rejoin the team he has supported in the past. “It’s great to return to one of KTM’s traditional customers. This team does excellent work, as shown last year when they became amateur champions in the Fanatec GT2 European Series. They know how to extract the maximum from KTM cars, and I’m thrilled to race with them again,” said the 39-year-old driver.

Kofler will share driving duties with team owner Tomáš Miniberger. They’ll tackle Saturday’s hour-long endurance race together, while Kofler takes part in the Saturday sprint, leaving Miniberger to aim for a strong result in Sunday’s sprint.

Slovakia Ring is a 5,922-meter circuit with 14 turns, three crests, and a mix of long straights, high-speed sections, and technical areas. Its 12-meter width provides plenty of overtaking opportunities. Kofler anticipates that the KTM X-Bow GT2 will suit the track well.

“This will be great fun, and I believe we could challenge some GT3 cars,” Kofler said, though he acknowledged the track’s demanding nature. “Piecing together a fast lap while maintaining consistency is a big challenge here. If you don’t get one corner right, it affects several others, and it takes time to get back on line. Precision and a well-set-up car are essential.”

This will be the second competitive outing for the new KTM X-Bow GT2, which debuted in May at the Zeknova Carbonia Cup, also held at Slovakia Ring. The team plans to enter select Fanatec GT2 European Series events with the car this season, aiming for a two-car presence in the championship.

RTR Projects has fielded one GT2 car in the series since last year, with Jan Krabec securing the AM title in 2022. This year, Krabec is competing in the Pro-Am class, sharing the car with professional drivers. He had a successful opening round in Le Castellet with Maťo Homola, claiming third and first places overall, but faced technical issues with Erik Janiš in Misano, resulting in two retirements.

At Slovakia Ring, RTR Projects will face competition from two KTM X-Bow GTX cars. ORLEN Janík Motorsport’s entry will feature Petr Koukola in the sprint and team boss Václav Janík in endurance. Slovakia’s Carin Racing will also field a GTX for Viktor Mráz and Maťo Homola. Additionally, Hungarian driver Gábor Tim will compete in a Lotus Exige, taking part only in the sprints.

“We wish all our customers the best of luck. I hope they enjoy the racing and bring their cars safely to the finish,” Fanta concluded.

The Saturday sprint is set to start at 13:50, followed by the endurance race at 16:55. The Sunday sprint kicks off at 14:20. All races will be streamed live on the ESET Cup Series official YouTube channel, part of the supporting program for the European Truck Racing Championship in Slovakia.
